Robin Chlad

Robin  Chlad (pronounced sha-lad) has been an artist all her life with a focus on ceramics in all forms.  Originally from upstate New York she has lived in Tucson since 1986,  attended Pima Community College  in 1987 and started her ceramic design business in 1989 called, Art & Clay Designs.  She started out in the wholesale sector with a product that catapulted her into the artist’s lifestyle.  As she developed a flair for marketable clay products she began to fill custom orders for mosaics and sculpted pieces.  Much her work is referred to as contemporary folk art with a leaning toward southwest.  Her work is playful, bright, bold and well executed.  One can see the quality and craftsmanship she puts into each one of  her art pieces.  Her work relays a connection to nature with spiritual and whimsical themes as seen in her Fish Tea Pot sets (with those adorably huge lips) , House of Fruit Mosaic wall hangings and Tea with a Frog wall tray.

She is currently working part-time with the elderly with disabilities and her grandson who lives with a severe brain disorder.  She likes to bring creative projects to her patients and encourages participation.  She combines her talents and experience with her teaching skills and has had great success and she finds it very rewarding .  She teaches pottery classes and participates in local Tucson art shows.    You can see her recent work at  Tucson Museum of Art Gift Shop and Tucson Botanical Garden Gift Shop.
